The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is set to be the 35th edition of Africa’s premier football tournament, organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

It usually takes place every two years, though the schedule occasionally shifts to avoid conflicts with other global football events or logistical challenges.

Host Nation and Venues 2025

The host country rotates among CAF member nations. The chosen host prepares venues and infrastructure to accommodate teams, officials, and fans.

WHEN AND WHERE IS THE NEXT AFRICAN CUP OF NATIONS?

The competition is scheduled from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026. This marks the first time AFCON will be held over the Christmas and New Year period, a shift aimed at accommodating global football calendars.

Morocco will host the tournament for the second time, having previously done so in 1988. The matches will be played across six cities:

  • Agadir: Adrar Stadium
  • Casablanca: Mohammed V Stadium
  • Fez: Fez Stadium
  • Marrakesh: Marrakesh Stadium
  • Rabat: Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium
  • Tangier: Ibn Batouta Stadium

Who Participates in AFCON 2025?

AFCON features national teams from CAF member countries. The number of participants has grown over the years; currently, 24 teams compete in the tournament after qualifying through regional group stages.

A total of 24 teams will compete in the tournament. As of now, several teams have secured their qualification, including:

  • Morocco (hosts)
  • Ivory Coast (defending champions)
  • Equatorial Guinea
  • Burkina Faso

The remaining spots will be determined through ongoing qualification matches.
