WITS Student Residence

At Wits, residences are LIVING and LEARNING centres. They offer a wide variety of residence accommodations, ranging from single-gender residences, and catering residences, to mixed-gender residences.

Campus Housing and Residence Life is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the University’s residence programme, including accommodation and meals, and the provision of recreational facilities and programmes for improved academic performance and the holistic development of students within a residential environment.

Whether you are new to university life or in your final years of study, WITS have a community for you.

NB:Ā  Applications are done online and not directly with the residences listed below, for new students to the university.

How to Apply to WITS Student Residence

If you wish to apply for residence, please take note of the following:

New Undergraduate Students at The University

  • NB: The closing date for all applications isĀ 30 SeptemberĀ each year.Ā Late applications will not be accepted.
  • Before you are admitted to a residence, you will be required to pay R10000 of your residence fees for the year.
  • International students are required to pay 75% of their residence fees.
  • NSFAS students must have a provisional or firm acceptance before being admitted into the residence.
  • Bursary students must provide proof of their bursary upon registration.

Students Who Are Presently at Wits, but Not Residing in Residence

  • Applications are done online through self-service. For further inquiries please contact the Central Accommodation Office ā€“ located on the Ground Floor, Room SH045, Solomon Mahlangu House.
  • The closing date forĀ undergraduates is 30 September.
  • Upon receiving an offer of a place in residence, you will have three (3) days in which to accept the offer. After the stipulated time, the offer will be withdrawn.

Students Currently Residing in A Residence

  • Readmission to University accommodation for a subsequent year is not automatic.
  • A student’s academic and disciplinary records are taken into account when readmission applications are considered.
  • Applications for readmission are done online and must be completed by 30 September.
  • Should you wish to apply for a residence different to the one youā€™re currently occupying, please do so on self-service.

Postgraduate Students (New to Wits)

  • Residence applications are done online.
  • Before you are admitted to a residence, you will be required to pay R10000 of your residence fees for the year.

  • Bursary students must provide proof of their bursary upon registration.
