What is the IDC Youth Funding?

The IDC Youth Funding Programme is a government-backed financial boost for South African youth (ages 18–35) who want to start or grow a business.

You can access between R1 million and R50 million in funding to support your hustle, whether you’re in manufacturing, farming, tech, or other industries that help grow the economy.

Who Can Apply?

You’re eligible if:

  • You’re a South African citizen or permanent resident.
  • You’re 35 years old or younger.
  • Your business is at least 26% youth-owned.
  • You’re involved in the day-to-day running of the business.
  • Your idea or business creates jobs (the more jobs, the better your chances!).

Bonus tip: IDC prefers businesses that create at least 1 job for every R800,000 invested.

Types of Funding Available

There are three main ways IDC can fund your hustle:

1. Gro-E Youth Scheme

  • How much? From R1 million to R50 million.

2. Youth Pipeline Development Programme

    • Training

    • You can get up to R500,000 in support even before the main investment kicks in.

3. IDC-NYDA-SEFA Joint Fund

  • A R1 billion joint youth fund from IDC, NYDA, and SEFA.
  • Combines money + mentorship + support tools.

Requirement
