Shoprite is offering bursaries for the 2025 academic year in the following disciplines:​

  • Accounting (CA Stream – SAICA): 10 bursaries available
  • Biological and Agricultural Sciences: 10 bursaries available
  • Food Science: 10 bursaries available
  • Retail Business Management: 60 bursaries available
  • Supply Chain & Logistics: 10 bursaries available​

Each bursary is tailored to support students in these specific fields, aligning with Shoprite’s strategic focus areas.

Bursary Benefits

Successful applicants will receive funding that covers:​

  • Tuition fees
  • Books
  • Accommodation allowance
  • Monthly grocery allowance

The bursary value ranges between R30,000 and R60,000, depending on the field of study and institution. ​

In return, recipients are required to work for Shoprite for one year for each year of funding received, ensuring practical experience and career development within the company. ​

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the bursary, applicants must:

  • Be South African citizens
  • Be 27 years old or younger
  • Have completed Matric
  • Be enrolled in or accepted to study full-time in one of the specified fields at a recognised South African tertiary institution
  • Meet the academic performance requirements specific to their field of study​

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS BY FIELD:

  • Accounting (CA Stream – SAICA):
    • Studying BCom Accounting or BAcc (CA stream)
    • In the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th years, PGDA, or CTA
    • Minimum overall average of 65%
    • Minimum 65% in Accounting, Auditing, and Taxation subjects
  • Biological and Agricultural Sciences:
    • Studying a BSc in Microbiology, Plant Pathology, Botany, Zoology, Genetics, Biotechnology, or any Agricultural degree
    • In 3rd or 4th year
    • Minimum overall average of 60%
  • Food Science:
    • Studying a Food Technology or Food Science degree
    • In 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year
    • Minimum overall average of 60%
  • Retail Business Management:
    • Studying a Diploma in Retail Business Management
    • In 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th (Advanced Diploma) year
    • Minimum overall average of 65%​
  • Supply Chain & Logistics:
    • Studying BCom in Logistics/Supply Chain Management, BSc in Operational Research, or Diploma/Advanced Diploma in Supply Chain/Logistics Management
    • In 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year
    • Minimum overall average of 60%​

All applicants must be studying at a recognised and accredited tertiary institution within South Africa.

  • Step 4: Complete the online application form and upload the following documents:
    • Certified copy of your South African ID
    • Certified copy of your Matric certificate
    • Full tertiary academic record, including the most recent results (on institution’s letterhead)​
