The Funza Lushaka Bursary Programme is a multi-year initiative aimed at promoting teaching as a profession in South Africa. It provides funding to eligible students pursuing a teaching qualification in priority subject areas.
Applications for the 2025 academic year will close on 26 January 2025.
FUNZA LUSHAKA BURSARY APPLICATION CRITERIA:
- South African citizenship with a valid ID number.
- 30 years old and below
- Accepted into an approved B.Ed. degree or PGCE programme specialising in two or more priority subject areas
- A strong academic record.
- Commitment to a teaching career, especially in subjects where there is a high demand for educators.
- Willingness to teach in any school as determined by a Provincial Education Department.
THE BURSARY COVERS THE FOLLOWING TEACHING QUALIFICATIONS:
4-year Bachelor of Education degree (B.Ed.), specialising in:
- Foundation Phase (Grade R – 3)
- Intermediate Phase (Grade 4 – 6)
- Senior and Further Education and Training Teaching (Grade 7-12)
One-year Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE)
- Only for Senior Phase and Further Education and Training Teaching (SPFET) (Grade 7-12)
Funza Lushaka Bursary Application Process
The Funza Lushaka Bursary application can be done in two main steps see below.
Register on the e-Government Portal:
- Visit the e-Government Portal website: https://www.eservices.gov.za/.
- Create an account by providing your details.
- Log in using your username and password.
Apply for the Bursary:
- After logging in, select “Education” from the menu.
- Choose “Funza Lushaka Bursary Scheme.”
- Complete the online application form by following the prompts.
- Review your application and submit it.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
- Only online applications are accepted; no hard-copy submissions will be considered.
- Ensure all information provided is accurate and complete to avoid disqualification.
- Successful applicants will be required to teach at a public school for the same number of years for which they received funding.
