WCED Grade R Applications 2025

The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) reveals the Grade R admission application resumption date for the 2025 school year. Parents are encouraged to gather the relevant documentation and information in preparation for the opening of the application period.

The application dates for Grade R in 2025 will depend on the location of the school you are applying to. Here’s a general guideline:

Public Schools

In South Africa, the general application window for Grade R admissions for the 2025 school year was from 1 August 2024 to 16 August 2024.

WCED is responsible for public schools in the Western Cape province. Other provinces may have different application dates.

Private Schools

Private schools may have their application processes and deadlines. Some schools may allow applications earlier than public schools. You should check the website or contact the admissions office of the private school you are interested in for more information.

How To Submit Grade R Applications

Before applying to WCED Grade R, note the documents needed for applications below;

“PLEASE NOTE: Parents can drop off the application form and supporting documents directly at the school. They can also contact the school for details on electronic (e-mail) submissions on the official WCED form only.”

Documents Needed For WCED Grade R Applications

Parents applying online will need the following supporting documents

• Immunisation card;
• ID, birth certificate, passport, study permit or proof of application or police affidavit; and
• Proof of address or police affidavit.

To submit Grade R applications for the 2025 school year in the Western Cape, follow these steps:

1. STEP 1: Visit the WCED Website
2. STEP 2: Select “Admissions 2024/25.”
3. STEP 3: Register as a Parent/Guardian
   • Click on “Admission | Grade 1 & 8.”
   • If you haven’t yet registered, click on “Parent Register.”
   • Read the terms and conditions. Click “Yes” and “Continue.”
   • Complete the Parent Register Check.
   • Click “Save.”
4. STEP 4: Complete the Registration Form
   • Complete ALL the required fields.
   • Click “Register.”
   • Ensure that your contact details (email and cellphone number) are correct.
   • Enter the OTP that appears on the screen in GREEN. Click “Verify.”
   • Create your password.
   • Answer the security questions.
   • Click “Register.”
   • The system will confirm registration AND you will receive a confirmation SMS.
   • Select “Click here to log in.”
5. STEP 4: Login and Complete the Profile
   • Enter your ID number and Password.
   • Click “Parent Login.”
   • Read the notification. Click “I accept.”
   • Complete the profile for the Primary Parent/Guardian.
   • Indicate which address schools must use for admission purposes.
   • Click “Save and return.”
   • Confirm the popup notification. Click “OK.”
6. STEP 5: Start the Learner Application
   • Select “Learner Application” to continue.
   • Click “Logout” to end the session if needed.
