The access criteria for the Free State School of Nursing is guided by:

  • Government Gazette 41474 of 2 March 2018 – Minimum Admission Requirements for Higher Certificate, Diploma and Degree programmes.
  • National Department of Health: National Policy on Nursing Education and Training.
  • SANC 2013 Diploma in Nursing Qualification Framework

SENIOR CERTIFICATE OBTAINED IN 2008 OR LATER

National Senior Certificate (NSC) as certified by Umalusi with six subjects from the designated list or equivalent certificate

  • Matric Certificate or equivalent thereof
  • AP score 25 and above (6 Subjects and Life Orientation)
  • Life Orientation counted as 1 irrespective of the level obtained

Compulsory

  • English level 4 (50-59%) and above
  • Mathematic Literacy (50-59%) and above
  • Life Science (50-59%) and above

Recommended

  • Computer Literacy Grade 9
  • Preference will be given to candidates for Physical Science

SENIOR CERTIFICATE OBTAINED BEFORE 2008

  • Matriculation Exemption or the equivalent thereof
  • M-Score 23 and above (A maximum of 6 subjects)

Compulsory

  • English HG (50%, E Symbol) and above or SG (60%, D Symbol) and above
  • Biology or Physiology HG (50%) and above or SG (60%) and above
  • Mathematics HG (40%) / SG (50%) or Commercial Mathematics SG (50%)

Recommended

  • Preference will be given to candidates for Physical Science

Higher Certificate in Auxiliary Nursing

  • Cost: R169
  • Duration: 1 Years

Candidates will be required to meet the following criteria

  • Matric Certificate or the equivalent thereof
  • AP Score 23 and above
  • English level 4
  • Life Science level 4
  • Mathematic Literacy level 4
  • Preference will be given to candidates with Computer Literacy Grades and Physical Science

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICANTS WHO MATRICULATED BEFORE 2008

  • Matric Certificate or the equivalent thereof
  • M-Score 20 and above
  • English SG (50%, D symbol) and above
  • Biology or Physiology
  • Preference will be given to candidates with Mathematics and Physical Science

Advanced Diploma in Midwifery

  • Cost: R1497
  • Duration: 1 Years

Candidates will be required to meet the following criteria

  • Matric Certificate or the equivalent thereof
  • Diploma in Nursing (NQF level 6)
  • Registration as a General Nurse at the South African Nursing Council.
