To be eligible for the Free State School of Nursing (FSSoN), you’ll need to meet specific academic requirements, depending on the program you’re interested in.

FS School of Nursing Academic Requirements For Diploma in Nursing
- Cost of study: R171
- Matric Certificate or equivalent: This includes a National Senior Certificate (NSC) or a recognized foreign equivalent.
- AP score 25 and above Calculated from six subjects and Life Orientation (counted as 1), with minimums in:
- English Level 4 (50%-59%) and above.
- Life Science Level 4 (50%-59%) and above.
- Mathematic Literacy Level 4 (50%-59%) and above.
- Computer Literacy Grade 9 is recommended.
FSSoN Academic Requirements For Higher Certificates in Auxiliary Nursing
- Cost of study: R169
- Matric Certificate or equivalent:Â Same as above.
- AP score is 23 and above.
- English Level 4.
- Life Science Level 4.
- Mathematic Literacy Level 4.
Preference may be given to applicants with Physical Science and Computer Literacy.
Applicants with relevant work experience in healthcare may be considered favourably.
NOTE:
- International students require a SAQA level 4 qualification.
- The deadline to apply is usually July 31st of each year.
