The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has announced the suspension of the COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant payments to beneficiaries suspected of fraud.
This measure aims to ensure that grants are provided to legitimate beneficiaries while safeguarding against identity theft.
Fake News: “Sassa will Cancel SRD Grant Payments“
Beneficiaries whose grants are canceled due to suspected fraud are allowed to reapply.
However, SASSA has temporarily suspended its Electronic Know Your Client (eKYC) system, which is used to verify beneficiaries’ identities. This suspension may delay the reapplication process for affected individuals.
IMPORTANT:
SASSA advises beneficiaries to safeguard their personal information and avoid sharing identity numbers with strangers to prevent fraudulent activities. Additionally, beneficiaries are encouraged not to frequently change their banking details or contact information, as this can delay the payment process.
For further assistance or information, beneficiaries can contact SASSA toll-free on 0800 60 10 11 or via WhatsApp at 082 046 8553.
