MPHIL/MPH/PH.D. APPLICANTS

SCHOOL OF ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCES

MPHIL / PHD PROGRAMMMES IN MEDICAL IMAGING APPLICANTS

It is announced for the information of prospective Applicants (as specified above) and the general public that E-vouchers for application forms 2024/2025 Postgraduate Programmes of the University of Health and Allied Sciences will start selling from December 23rd, 2019 at a cost of GHC220.00.

1. MASTER OF PHILOSOPHY (MPHIL) IN MEDICAL IMAGING

The MPhil programme has two pathways – the two (2) years Full-Time (regular) and the three years Part-Time (sandwich) options. The timeline for the full time (regular) format will be consistent with the academic timetable of the university (usually runs from August to June). For Part-Time students, the first year will consist of two long vacations (June – August). Each long vacation period will be equivalent to one semester.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR MPHIL

  • Applicants must hold a first degree (at least 2nd class lower or 2.2 GPA) in Medical Imaging (Diagnostic/therapy Radiography), Nuclear Medicine or related MI area from a recognised University.
  • Applicants must have at least two years work experience as a diagnostic or therapy radiographer, mammographer, sonographer or other related MI specialties.
  • Two reference statements/letters from professional and/or academic referees
  • Applicants must pass an admission interview
  • Ghanaian and foreign applicants are eligible to apply

2. DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (PHD)

The PhD programme is a four (4)-year full-time or six years’ part-time programme to be conducted in similar formats as the MPhil full time (regular) and part-time (sandwich)]. In the first academic year, candidates will undertake same taught courses to enable them identify areas of research interest in MI to conduct their research. The timeline for the full time (regular) format will be consistent with the academic timetable of the university (usually runs from August to June). For Part-Time students, the first year will consist of two long vacations (June – August). Each long vacation period will be equivalent to one semester.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR PHD

  • Applicants must hold an MPhil or MSc. in Medical Imaging, Therapy Radiography, Nuclear Medicine or related MI area from a recognised University.
  • Applicants must have at least three years work experience as a diagnostic or therapy radiographer, mammographer, sonographer or other related MI specialties.
  • Two reference statements/letters from professional and/or academic referees.
  • Applicants must pass an admission interview
  • Ghanaian and foreign applicants are eligible to apply
  • Research proposal (not more than 700 words)
  • Statement of purpose (not more than 500 words)

SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH (REGULAR) – HOHOE CAMPUS

It is announced for the information of prospective Applicants (as specified above) and the general public that E-vouchers for application forms for programmes for the 2019/2024 Academic Year will be on sale from December, 2018. The 2019/2024 Academic Year is expected to commence in August, 2019.

1. MASTER OF PHILOSOPHY (MPHIL REGULAR) IN APPLIED EPIDEMIOLOGY

Duration: The programme will be full time for a period of 24 months

Entry Requirements

  • A good first degree in a relevant discipline such as Medical Laboratory Science, Human and Veterinary Medicine or any health related field.
  • Candidates with three (3) years relevant working experience are preferred
  • Candidates should have a background or interest in Public Health
  • Candidates may be required to pass an entrance examination and or interview

2. MASTER OF PUBLIC HEALTH (MPH – REGULAR) with the following options:

  • MPH (General)
  • MPH (Epidemiology and Disease Control)

Duration: The programme will be full time for a period of 12 months

Entry Requirements

  • A good first degree, in relevant health and health related field.
  • Candidates with three (3) years relevant working experience are preferred
  • All candidates should have a background or interest in Public Health.
  • Candidates may be required to pass an entrance examination and or interview

WASSCE/SSSCE/A-Level/Mature Applicants

1. WASSCE / SSSCE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL PROGRAMMES

Passes (A1-C6 / A-D) in English, Core Mathematics, Integrated Science and Social Studies (input all the four core subjects when applying) in addition to three elective subjects applicable to the programme of choice

(Applicants should note that they are expected to have at least C6/D in Social Studies. However, the core subjects considered for calculating their aggregates are English Language, Core Mathematics and Integrated Science)

2. LEVEL APPLICANTS

Candidates must have the General Certificate of Education at Ordinary Level in five (5) subjects, including English and Mathematics, in addition to: Chemistry, Physics and Biology; additionally, General Science and any other subjects plus the General Certificate of Education at Advanced Level or its equivalent in the following subjects: Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics.

3. MATURE APPLICANTS ( SCHOOL OF PHARMACY)

Applicants must have obtained a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Dispensing Technology/ Pharmacy Technician Course or its equivalent from an accredited institution with at least three (3) years relevant working experience.

OR

Applicants must have attained the age of 25 years at the time of submitting the application forms and must have five (5) credits at O-level including English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics

1. GENERAL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR OTHER EDUCATIONAL CREDENTIALS

a) IGCSE/IB – To be admitted to the Programme, IGCSE/IB holders must possess at least Grades A*/A-C in English, Mathematics and Biology at the Standard (SL/’O’ Level), in addition to three Higher Level (HL-A to C)/’A’ Level (A to d)/IB2 (A-C) grades in Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Mathematics.

b) General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level: Applicants should, in addition to credit passes in five (5) GCE ‘O’ Level subjects (including English and Mathematics), have three (3) passes in Chemistry, Biology and Physics or Mathematics at the Advanced Level.

c) American High School Grade – Grades 12&13 examinations

2. International Applicants and Ghanaians with External Educational Credentials in the following:

i. Senior Secondary School Certificates (WASSCE/SSSCE)
ii. International Baccalaureate (IB)
iii. GCE (Cambridge) – ‘O’ and ‘A’ Levels
iv. IGSCE (Cambridge) – ‘O’ and ‘A’ Levels
v. American High School Grade – Grades 12&13 examinations
vi. Other external qualifications which have equivalences to the WASSCE/SSSCE and the GCE (A Levels)

d) Baccalaureate (From French-speaking countries), and other Foreign High School Diploma equivalent to WASSCE. Other International Students having equivalent qualifications may apply for admission. NB: Foreign Certificates must receive authentication and equivalencies from Ghana National Accreditation Board, Foreign students must have their high school certificates and diplomas translated into English if they are not written in English.

The point of entry for all admitted applicants is Level 100.

SCHOOL OF ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCES (REGULAR) – HO CAMPUS

  • Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science
  • Bachelor of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences
  • Bachelor of Dietetics
  • Bachelor of Physiotherapy
  • Bachelor of Diagnostic Imaging (Radiography)

Entry Requirements:

a. Ghanaian Applicants with WASSCE / SSSCE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science, Social studies plus three (3) credits in any of the following elective subjects:

i. Chemistry, Biology and Physics or Elective Mathematics (For Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences applicants)
ii. Physics, Biology, Chemistry or Elective Mathematics (For Bachelor of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences applicants.). In addition, applicants with General Arts, Agricultural Science and Home Economics background must have at least WASSCE grade B2 or its SSSCE equivalent in Integrated Science to qualify to apply for Bachelor of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences.
iii. Chemistry, Biology and Physics or Elective Mathematics (For Bachelor of Dietetics applicants). In addition, applicants with Home Economics and General Agriculture Science backgrounds with Biology or Chemistry, Food & Nutrition, Management in Living and General Agriculture and Animal Husbandry can also apply for Bachelor of Dietetics. However, preference would be given to applicants with pure science background.
iv. Physics, Biology and Chemistry or Elective Mathematics (For Bachelor of Physiotherapy and Bachelor of Diagnostic Imaging applicants).

b. General Entry requirements for other Educational Credentials is detailed above

c. Other Qualifications: Graduate Entry (Top-Up)

Bachelor’s degree in any of the Life Sciences (e.g. Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Human Biology, Nutrition, and Food Science) from accredited Universities. Generally, graduate applicants must have an FGPA of not less than 2.50 (Second Class Lower Division) or its equivalent.

NB: All shortlisted applicants, irrespective of the entry route, MAY be required to pass a selection interview and/or entrance examination for admission into the programme.

SCHOOL OF BASIC AND BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES (REGULAR) – HO CAMPUS

  • BSc. Medical Biochemistry and Molecular Biology

Entry Requirements:

WASSCE / SSSCE OR ITS EQUIVALENT

English Language, Core Mathematics, Integrated Science plus three (3) credits in the Elective Subjects as follows:

a. Pure Science Students: Chemistry, Biology and Physics or Elective Mathematics
b. Agricultural Science Students: General Agric/Animal Husbandry/Horticulture, Chemistry and Physics or Elective Mathematics
c. General entry requirements for other educational credentials as enumerated above

NB: All shortlisted applicants, irrespective of the entry route, MAY be required to pass a selection interview and/or entrance examination for admission into the programme.

SCHOOL OF MEDICINE (REGULAR) – HO CAMPUS

  • Medical Degree (MB ChB) (6 years)
  • Bachelor of Physician Assistantship (Clinical)(4 years)

Entry Requirements:

a) WASSCE / SSSCE OR ITS EQUIVALENT

Applicants must have obtained three (3) credits (at least Grade A1-C6 in WASSCE and A-D in SSSCE) in the following Core Subjects:
English Language, Core Mathematics, Integrated Science plus three (3) credits in the following Elective Subjects: Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Elective Mathematics.

b) GENERAL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR OTHER EDUCATIONAL CREDENTIALS AS INDICATED ABOVE.

NB: All shortlisted applicants, irrespective of the entry route, MAY be required to pass a selection interview and/or entrance examination for admission into the programme.

SCHOOL OF NURSING AND MIDWIFERY (REGULAR) – HO CAMPUS

  • Bachelor of Nursing
  • Bachelor of Midwifery
  • Bachelor of Public Health Nursing

Entry Requirements:

WASSCE / SSSCE OR ITS EQUIVALENT

English Language, Core Mathematics and Integrated Science plus any three (3) of the following: Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Elective Mathematics, Economics, Geography, Government, History, Christian Religious Studies or Islamic Religious Studies, Literature-in-English, French, Ghanaian Language, General Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Food and Nutrition and Management in Living.

NB: All shortlisted applicants, irrespective of the entry route, MAY be required to pass a selection interview and/or entrance examination for admission into the programme.

SCHOOL OF PHARMACY (REGULAR) – HO CAMPUS

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D) (6 years)

Entry Requirements:

Three categories of applicants will be admitted to pursue the programme. They are:

1. WASSCE/ SSSCE APPLICANTS

Applicants must have obtained three (3) credits (at least Grade A1-C6 in WASSCE and A-D in SSSCE) in the following Core Subjects:
English Language, Core Mathematics, Integrated Science plus three (3) credits in the following Elective Subjects: Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Elective Mathematics.

2. A – LEVEL APPLICANTS

Candidates must have the General Certificate of Education at Ordinary Level in five (5) subjects, including English and Mathematics, in addition to: Chemistry, Physics and Biology; additionally, General Science and any other subjects plus the General Certificate of Education at Advanced Level or its equivalent in the following subjects: Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics.

3. MATURE APPLICANTS

Applicants must have obtained a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Dispensing Technology/ Pharmacy Technician Course or its equivalent from an accredited institution with at least three (3) years relevant working experience.

OR

Applicants must have attained the age of 25 years at the time of submitting the application forms and must have five (5) credits at O-level including English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
All admitted applicants will start from Level 100.

SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH (REGULAR) – HOHOE CAMPUS

Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSc. PH) with the following options:

  • Disease Control
  • Health Information
  • Health Promotion
  • Nutrition

Entry Requirements:

Applicants must have obtained three (3) credits (at least Grade A1-C6 in WASSCE and A-D in SSSCE) in the following Core Subjects: English Language, Core Mathematics and Integrated Science plus

  • Chemistry, Biology and Physics or Elective Mathematics for Science students. Science students are eligible to apply for all BSc. PH progammes.
  • Government, Literature in English, Economics, Ghanaian Language, CRS (other religious studies), History, French, Geography, and Elective Mathematics), Agricultural Science (Crop & Soil Science, Animal Husbandry, and Horticulture), Home Economics (Management in Living, General Knowledge in Art, Food and Nutrition), Visual Arts (General Knowledge in Art, Clothing and Textiles, Picture Making and Graphic Design) for Non-Science Students.

The above notwithstanding, each category of non-science students need the following combinations of courses to be eligible for the following specific programmes;

• General Arts Students:

General Arts Students are only eligible to apply for BSc. PH (Health Information), BSc. PH (Health Promotion), and BSc. PH (Nutrition).

General Arts Students must have passes in Elective Mathematics and any other two elective courses to be eligible for BSc. PH (Health Information).

Elective Mathematics is not a prerequisite for General Arts students that opt for BSc. PH (Health Promotion).

• Home Economics Students:

Home Economics Students are only eligible to apply for BSc. PH (Disease Control), BSc. PH (Nutrition) and BSc. PH (Health Promotion).

Home Economics Students must have passes in Biology or Chemistry and any other two electives to be eligible for BSc. PH (Disease Control).

Biology/Chemistry is not a prerequisite for Home Economics Students that opt for BSc. PH (Health Promotion).

• Visual Arts Students:

Visual Arts students are only eligible to apply for BSc. PH (Health Promotion)

SANDWICH APPLICANTS

SCHOOL OF ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCES (SANDWICH) – HO CAMPUS

Mature applicants with the relevant qualifications can apply to pursue a sandwich programme in any of the following three (3) Bachelor programmes (Dietetics; Medical Laboratory Sciences; and Physiotherapy) in the School of Allied Health Sciences.

General Entry Requirements

  • Applicants must have attained the age of 25 years at the time of submitting the application forms.
  • Applicants MUST hold a certificate accredited by the AHPC, Ghana (where applicable)
  • Applicants should upload a scanned copy of their Licensing Certificates showing their Identification Number (PIN), Academic Certificate and Transcript.
  • Proof of a minimum of three (3) years working experience.
  • Short-listed applicants will have to pass a selection interview.
  • All successful applicants will be admitted as fee-paying students.

The entry path for applicants into sandwich programmes is outlined below:

A. Diploma Holders

Interested applicants with any Professional Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology; Nutrition; Radiologic Technology and Physiotherapy Assistantship from accredited institutions with FGPA of not less than 2.5 with a minimum of three (3) years certified working experience, will have to pass a selection interview to be conducted by the School of Allied Health Sciences, University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho, for admissions.

Successful Applicants will enroll at Level 300 Sandwich, except for Physiotherapy Assistants who will enroll at level 200 (May – September, 16 weeks each year) and for Radiologic Technology (Full-time for applicants working and showing evidence of having obtained a study leave approval) degree programme in the School of Allied Health Sciences, University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho.

B. HND Holders/Diploma in a Non-Health Related Profession

Interested applicants with any HND in Science Laboratory Technology; Hospitality Management, or any non-profession related health programme, from accredited institutions, with FGPA of not less than 2.5 with a minimum of three (3) years certified working experience, will have to pass a selection interview to be conducted by the School of Allied Health Sciences, University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho.

Successful Applicants will enroll at Level 200 Sandwich degree programme in the School of Allied Health Sciences, University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho.

The Sandwich programmes in the SCHOOL OF ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCES will run for 16 weeks from May 16, to September 5, 2024 in Ho Campus.The deadline for completion of the online application form for Sandwich is March 29, 2024 .

SCHOOL OF NURSING AND MIDWIFERY (SANDWICH) – HO CAMPUS

  • Bachelor of Nursing
  • Bachelor of Midwifery
  • Bachelor of Public Health Nursing

Entry Requirements

  • Applicants must have certification by Nursing and Midwifery Council, Ghana.
  • Applicants must hold a Diploma with Final Grade Point Average (FGPA) of 2.50 or better.
  • Applicants must hold Certificate(s) in any of the following areas: SRN and Public Health      Nursing (PHN), Midwifery and Mental Health Nursing / Registered Mental Health Nursing (RMN).
  • Short-listed applicants may be required to attend a selection interview.
  • Applicants MUST have practised in their chosen fields for three (3) years or more.
  • The point of entry will be Level 300.
  • Crossing over from one programme to another (e.g. General Nursing, Public Health Nursing and Midwifery) is allowed but the point of entry is Level 200 instead of Level 300 and they must write the Licensing Examination.
  • Post NAC/NAP Midwifery applicants will progress in the field of Midwifery and are exempted from writing the Licensing Examination. The point of entry is Level 300 but this is at the discretion of the University. The University may decide to put an applicant at Level 200.

Entry Requirements for Diploma Holders into Level 300 Sandwich Programme.

The Sandwich Programme in the SCHOOL OF NURSING AND MIDWIFERY will run for 16 weeks starting from May 16 to September 5 in Ho.
The deadline for completion of the online application form for Sandwich Programme is March 29.

SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH (SANDWICH) – HOHOE CAMPUS

Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSc. PH) with the following options:

  • Disease Control
  • Environmental Health
  • Health Information
  • Health Promotion
  • Nutrition
  • Mental Health

Entry Requirements

  • Candidates with Diploma awarded by accredited Health Institutions and Institutions under the Ministry of Health shall require an FGPA of 2.50 or better/equivalent.
  • Short-listed applicants shall be required to attend a selection interview.
  • A holder of a two year or three-year diploma in any Environmental Health discipline with a minimum of FGPA of 2.50 may apply for Bachelor of Public Health (Environmental Health option).
  • Applicants MUST have practiced in their chosen fields for three (3) years or more.
  • The point of entry will be Level 300.

In addition to the above requirements, applicants for BSc. PH (Mental Health) should possess any of the following qualifications:

  • Diploma in Nursing (General / Psychiatry Nursing and Midwifery.
  • Diploma in either Disease Control, Nutrition, Health Promotion or Health Information
The Sandwich programmes in the SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH will run for 18 weeks for the Academic Year (9 weeks at each of the Module) from June 6, 2024 – August 8, 2024 for the first module at Hohoe Campus and January 2, 2024 – March 6, 2024 at Worawora Learning Centre for the second module. The deadline for completion of the online application form for Sandwich Programme is March 29, 2024.

It is announced for the information of prospective applicants and the general public that E-vouchers for application forms for 2024 Access Courses, 2024/2025 Sandwich Programmes and 2024/2025 Postgraduate Programmes of the University of Health and Allied Sciences will start selling from December 23rd at a cost of GHC220.00

SCHOOL OF ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCES ACCESS – WORAWORA

The Access Course in the SCHOOL OF ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCES will run for 8 weeks from March 21 to May 16 at Worawora.

SCIENCES (ACCESSS COURSE / SANDWICH) – HO CAMPUS

Access Course in the School of Allied Health Sciences is an eight (8) week programme to enable interested applicants with Certificate in Medical Laboratory Technology (for Medical Laboratory Sciences); HND in Hospitality Management (for Dietetics) and Certificate in Orthotics or Physiotherapy Assistantship (for Physiotherapy) from accredited institutions to enroll into degree programmes (Sandwich). Applicants with FGPA of not less than 2.5 with a minimum of three (3) years certified working experience, will enter degree programmes through an eight (8) week Access Course in the School of Allied Health Sciences.

Successful Candidates from the Access Course, would be required to pass a selection interview and enroll at Level 200 of the Sandwich Programme in the following year (to take place from May – September, 16 weeks each year) .

Programmes to be enrolled in, on successful completion of the access course, and selection interview are:

  • Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences
  • Bachelor of Dietetics
  • Bachelor of Physiotherapy

The Access Course in the SCHOOL OF ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCES will run for 8 weeks from March 21 to May 16 at Worawora.

SCHOOL OF NURSING AND MIDWIFERY ACCESSS COURSE – WORAWORA (From May 30 to July 25)

Access Course in the School of Nursing and Midwifery is an eight (8) week programme to enable auxiliary Nurses, Midwives and Community Health Nurses who already hold certificates and Auxiliary Identification Number (AIN) or Professional Identification Number (PIN) in Post-basic Midwifery from the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Ghana to enroll onto degree SANDWICH programmes in the School of Nursing and Midwifery. The point of entry will be Level 100 / 200 depending on applicant’s professional background and choice of programme. Applicants MUST pass the Access Course examination before they are considered for admission into the SANDWICH programme which has the following options.

  • Bachelor of Nursing
  • Bachelor of Midwifery
  • Bachelor of Public Health Nursing

The Access Course in the School of Nursing and Midwifery will run for 8 weeks from May 30 to July 25 at Worawora. The Deadline for submission of online Applications is is February 29, 2024 for Access applicants.

SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH – WORAWORA (From March 21 to May 16, 2024)

Access Course in the School of Public Health is an eight (8) week programme to enable certificate or diploma holders with GPA below 2.0 in Public Health and other related areas to enroll onto degree programme (Sandwich) in the School of Public Health, after passing the Access Course examinations.

The Access Course in the SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH will run for 8 weeks from March 21 to May 16, 2024 at Worawora Learning Centre. The deadline for completion of the online application form for School of Public Health Access Course is February 29, 2024.
