The Kisii University, Students applying to Undergraduates, Postgraduate, Diploma, Masters programs, etc must meet the following criteria in order to be considered for admission.

Entry requirements for an Undergraduate Degree Programme
Faculty of Health Sciences
To be eligible for admission, candidates must satisfy the minimum entry requirements as set out by Kisii University statutes. In addition
- Candidates must have passed the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) at the minimum B – grade in the courses below:
- Alternative B
- Biological Sciences
- Chemistry & Physical Sciences
- Mathematics or Physics Mathematics – C+
- Candidates with a diploma in related areas from a recognized institution may be admitted, provided that they passed at credit level or above.
Faculty of Law
- All candidates admitted to the degree programme of Bachelor of Laws must satisfy the minimum University common entrance requirements.
- In addition, candidates must obtain at least the minimum cut off point for the year as determined from any one of the following four cluster subjects from the revised K.C.S.E. structure. Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education.
- Candidates must have attained a minimum grade of B plain in the English language.(lower grades in English not less than C plain may be admitted as long as the student undertakes to be responsible for bridging the English grades by taking the relevant Council for Legal Education (CLE) examinations upon completion of the Bachelor of Law degree without relying on Kisii University to get admission to the Kenya School of Law.
- At least anyone from the following.

- Geography
- Christian Religion Education
- Social Education and Ethics
- ·Hindu Religious Education
- ·Islamic Religious Education
- Mathematics
- Those holding qualification equivalents to above from institutions recognized by the University Academic Board.
- Admission may be offered to candidates who have successfully undertaken a two-year diploma course and passed with a credit and above from a recognized institution subject to the fulfilment of a contract of Legal Education requirements.
- A degree or degrees from an institution recognized by the Academic Board.
- A holder of Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education with at least two Principal passes and above.
Faculty of Information Science & Technology Programmes
- Candidates must have passed the K.C.S.E., or equivalent examination with the following minimum grades to be considered:
- EITHER
- Mathematics B+
- Physics B
- Obtained an B grade in one humanities subject and B grade in one language subject.
- Holder of a diploma with credits passes and above in Computer science or equivalent from institutions recognised by Kisii University.
- Students admitted with Diploma in Computer science may transfer credits according to Kisii University regulations.
- Direct entry for Degree in Software Engineering must have an aggregate grade of C+ in KCSE with at least grade C+ in English or Kiswahili, and Mathematics and Physics, or its equivalent.
- Those holding a credit pass and above in Diploma in an IT-related programme from an institution recognized by the Kisii University Senate.
- Those holding qualifications equivalent to the above from institutions recognized by the Kisii University Senate.
Faculty of Business & Economics
All candidates admitted to the degree programme of Bachelors of co-operative management degree must satisfy the minimum common entrance requirements as stipulated by the Kisii University senate.
- Be a holder of KCSE certificate with a minimum aggregate of C+ and a minimum of C in both Mathematics and English/Kiswahili OR
- Be a holder of KACE certificate with a minimum of two principal passes and subsidiary pass and a minimum of a credit pass in Mathematics at KCE OR
- Be a holder of a diploma in a relevant discipline with a credit pass from an institution recognised by the University Senate OR
- Be a holder of any qualification recognised by the University Senate.
- Based on senate approved guidelines, candidates may be allowed to transfer up to 30%of credit factors from a related diploma course.
All applicants admitted to the degree of Bachelor of Purchasing and Supplies Management must satisfy the minimum admission requirements of the Kisii University senate.
- In addition, the candidate should have a minimum of C in both Mathematics and English/Kiswahili OR
- The candidate be a holder of KACE certificate with a minimum of two Principal passes, and a minimum of a credit pass in Mathematics at KC OR
- The candidate must be a holder of diploma in Marketing, Insurance&Risk Management, Co-Operative Management, from any institution recognised by the Kisii University Senate OR
- The candidate must be a holder of any other qualification equivalent to the above from institutions recognised by Kisii University Senate may also be admitted.
All candidates admitted to the degree programme of Bachelor of Catering and Hotel Management (BCHM) must satisfy the minimum common entrance requirements as stipulated by the Kisii University statutes.
- Be a holder of KCSE certificate with a minimum aggregate of C+ and a minimum of C in both Mathematics and English/Kiswahili OR
- Be a holder of KACE certificate with a minimum of two principal passes and subsidiary pass with a minimum of a credit pass in Mathematics at KCE OR
- Be a holder of a diploma in a relevant discipline with a credit pass from an institution recognised by Kisii university senate OR
- Be a holder of any equivalent qualification recognised by the university senate.
- Based on senate approved guidelines, candidates may be allowed to transfer up to 30% of credit factors from a related diploma course.
Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources Management
- In addition to satisfying the minimum admission requirement for Kisii University, the candidates should obtain at least grade C in Mathematics, C+ in Biology or B- in Biological Sciences, C in Chemistry, B- in Geography or History and Government, and at least C+ in English or Kiswahili at K.S.C.E.
- Admission will be granted to diploma holders in Hotel or Tourism management from a recognized institution. Degree holders from other institutions interested in this program will be considered on individual merits.
Candidates applying for the Bachelor in Agribusiness Management must satisfy the minimum University entrance requirements in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (K.C.S.E.).
- In addition to this, all candidates should meet the requirements provided in the Kisii University Statutes.
- In addition to the above, applicants must offer passes in the following subjects
- -Biology B or Biological Sciences B-
- -Mathematics B+
- An added advantage will be given to applicants who have passed with at least a C grade pass in economics, commerce or accounting
- Admission may be granted to outstanding diploma holders who have passed with distinction, Credit or equivalent in management, farm management or other discipline recognized by the Kisii University Senate.
Admission Requirements for B.Sc. in Agricultural Economics
- Applicants must satisfy the minimum entry requirements for admissions into the University by attaining an average grade of B- in the 8 subjects they offer at KCSE or equivalent examinations.
- In addition to one above, applicants must offer passes in the following subject;
- -Biology B or Biological Sciences B- Chemistry B- or Physical Science B
- An added advantage will be given to applicants who have passed with at least a C grade pass in economics, commerce or Agriculture. Admission may be granted to outstanding diploma holders who have passed with distinction, Credit or their equivalence in farm management, agriculture or other related disciplines from recognized universities or colleges.
For Bachelor of Science In Natural Resource Management,
- candidates must have achieved the minimum entry requirements for the university, at least grade B- in Biology or B in Biological Sciences, B- in Geography, C+ in Chemistry or B- in physical science and C+ in Mathematics at K.C.S.E. or equivalent examination. An added advantage will be given to candidates who have passed with at least a C grade in Agriculture or Economics at K.C.S.E. or equivalent examination.
- Admission will be granted to outstanding diploma holders who have passed with Distinction, Credit or the equivalent in Range Management, Animal Husbandry, Animal Health, Forestry, Wildlife and other related fields
All candidates admitted to the degree programme of Bachelor of Science in Water Science and Fisheries must satisfy the minimum entrance requirements stipulated in the common university entrance regulations.
- In addition, candidates MUST have passed the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with a minimum grade indicated in each of the following subjects:
- Biology B-or Biological Science B
- Chemistry B- or Physical Science B
- Mathematics C+
- Geography B-
- Those holding qualifications equivalent to the above from institutions recognized by Kisii University Senate may also be admitted.
- A mission may be offered to outstanding diploma holders in Biological Sciences passed with a credit or above or their equivalent. Such cases will be treated on individual merit.
- Transfer of credit factors from the diploma programme or their equivalent may be considered, and in such a case a credit transfer a maximum of 30% of the curricular would be allowed for those who qualify based on the guidelines stipulated by the Senate.
Institute of Gender & Development Studies Programmes
- KCSE with a minimum grade of C+ (plus) with C+ (plus) in English/Kiswahili or Diploma in a related field.
Faculty of Education and Human Resources Development Programmes
- For Bachelor of Education (Science), Candidates must have a mean grade of C+ and above (or equivalent) and at least a C+ in the subject of specialization OR A level with two principal passes in relevant subjects. In addition, they must also satisfy departmental requirements before registering for a course in the particular department.
- For Bachelor of Education (Arts), Candidates must have a mean grade of C+ aggregate grade in KCSE plus C+ in areas of specialization and a minimum of C+ in either English or Kiswahili
Kisii University Postgraduate Admission Requirement
Entry requirements for a Postgraduate degree Programme
- A Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from an accredited University in a subject or subjects relevant to the course applied for.
Duration of Programme
- 1 Academic Year
Entry requirements for a Masters Degree Programme
- A Bachelor’s degree with at least an Upper Second class honours; or
- A Bachelor’s degree with a Lower Second Class Honors and two years of work experience in a related field.
Entry requirements for a Doctor of Philosophy Programme
- Masters Degree from a recognized University in areas of specialization relevant to the programme.
