TUK Admission Criteria 2024/2025

The management of the Technical University of Kenya (TUK) has released the Application Criteria/Requirement for the Student of the institution.

The Technical University of Kenya, TUK Students applying to Undergraduates, Postgraduate, Diploma, Masters programs, etc must meet the following criteria in order to be considered for admission.

Candidates shall be eligible for admission into The Bachelor of Technology in Information Technology in the following categories:

KCSE Applicants

The basic admission requirement shall be the minimum entry requirements set for entry into the public universities, which is at least an average grade of C+ in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).

Applicants with a Diploma in technology in Information Technology of the Kenya Polytechnical University or an equivalent qualification.

Higher Diploma or Equivalent

Applicants with a Higher Diploma in Computer studies of the Kenya Polytechnic University

Eligible for admission into the Bachelor of Philosophy in Technology Applied Biology Degree in the School of Pure and Applied Sciences are those who hold Higher Diploma in Applied Biology or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.

Credit Transfer and Exemptions

Where a candidate wishes to be exempted from any course or courses of study, such candidate shall make a written formal application to the Registrar (Academic) justifying the request and attaching evidence of the credentials which support such request. Such a candidate may be required to sit and pass an exemption examination set and administered by the School and approved under the authority of the Senate on the recommendation of the College Academic Board.

Based on the assessment of the exemption examination, the Academic Board of the School of Pure and Applied Sciences and shall make its recommendation to the College Academic Board. On approval of such recommendation by the College Academic Board, the Board shall forward its recommendation to Senate for further consideration.

The decision of the Senate shall be communicated to the College Academic Board who in turn shall communicate the decision to the candidate. The units for which such exemption is sought shall not exceed one third (1/3) of the total number of units for the Course. The curriculum shall consist of an approved scheme of study.

  • Other Qualifications

The point of entry into the program for applicants with qualifications other than KSCE, A-Levels, or Dip. Tech shall be approved by Senate on the recommendations of the Academic Board of the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management and the College Academic Board, and shall be based on the qualifications of the applicant.

Where a Applicants wishes to be exempted from any course or courses of study, such Applicants shall make a written formal application to the Registrar (Academic) justifying the request and attaching evidence of the credentials which support such request. Such a candidate may be required to sit and pass an exemption examination set and administered by the School and approved under the authority of the Senate on the recommendation of the College Academic Board.

Based on the assessment of the exemption examination, the Academic Board of the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management shall make its recommendation to the College Academic Board. On approval of such recommendation by the College Academic Board, the Board shall forward its recommendation to Senate for further consideration.

The decision of the Senate shall be communicated to the College Academic Board who in turn shall communicate the decision to the candidate.

Applicants shall be eligible for admission into the Bachelor of Technology in Office Administration degree in the School of Business and Management Studies in the following categories:

KCSE Candidates

The basic admissions requirement shall be the minimum entry requirements set for entry into the public universities, which is at least a mean grade of C+ in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE)

In addition, candidates are expected to have performed well in the following cluster subjects in KCSE examinations, but at any rate shall have obtained at least a grade C plain in each of the cluster subjects:

Diploma in Technology (Dip. Tech.) or Equivalent

Candidates with a Diploma in Technology (Dip.Tech.) in Office Administration of Nairobi Technical University or an equivalent qualification.

Higher Diploma (HDip) in Secretarial Management or Equivalent

Applicants with a Higher Diploma (HDip) in Secretarial offered by Nairobi Technical University or an equivalent qualification.

  • minimum of two (2) principal passes in Art/Design and Digital Technology and Physics and a subsidiary level pass in Chemistry with a credit pass in English at Ordinary-Level
  • Diploma (Technical Education Project) in Graphic Design/Printing Technology/Clothing Technology or Diploma in Technology in Design, Printing Technology/Journalism/Public Relations/Clothing Technology of Technical University of Kenya

Bachelor of Technology in Journalism and Mass Communication

Candidates shall be eligible for admission to the Bachelor of Technology in Journalism and Mass Communication degree in the School of Creative Arts and Technologies in the following categories

  • C+ (plus) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
  • C in English in KCSE, Principal passes, and 2 subsidiaries in A-Level.
  • Diploma in Journalism Technology (KNEC) or equivalent qualification
