As a South African student, if you wish to cancel your university registration, the process varies depending on the institution.
Here’s a guide for the University of Cape Town (UCT), the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits), and the University of South Africa (Unisa):

University of Cape Town (UCT)
STEP 1 – Complete the Cancellation Form:
- Download and fill out the ACA08 Cancellation of Registration form.
STEP 2 – Upload the Form:
- Submit the completed form via the “Cancellation of Registration Application” on service requests in PeopleSoft. For assistance, refer to the guide on Vula (https://vula.uct.ac.za/portal/directtool/).
STEP 3 – Fee Implications:
- Be aware that cancellation may affect any funding disbursed by UCT.
- If you are not the fee payer, a signed consent letter from the fee payer must be submitted to the Fees Office before any refund is processed. Send this to fnd-feeenq@uct.ac.za.
University of the Witwatersrand (Wits)
STEP 1 – Obtain the Cancellation Form:
- Download the Cancellation of Registration form or get it from your Faculty Office.
STEP 2 – Complete the Form:
- Fill out the form with the necessary details and indicate the reason for cancellation.
STEP 3 – Submit the Form:
- Return the completed form to your Faculty Office.
- Note that cancellation charges may apply, as detailed in the Fees booklet.
STEP 4 – Return University Property:
- Ensure that all university property, such as library books and student cards, is returned as part of the cancellation process.
University of South Africa (Unisa)
STEP 1 – Log in to myUnisa:
- Access your account at myUnisa.
STEP 2 – Navigate to Module Cancellation:
- Go to “myAdmin”,
- Select “Student Admin”,
- Then click on “Cancel Modules”.
STEP 3 – Understand Fee Implications:
- Be aware that cancelling modules may result in forfeiture of part or all of the fees paid, depending on the timing of the cancellation.
STEP 4 – Cooling-Off Period:
- If you cancel your registration within 10 calendar days of activation, you may apply for a full refund, excluding foreign levies.
STEP 5 – Submit Refund Request:
- After processing the cancellation, complete the relevant refund form and submit it to finan@unisa.ac.za.
IMPORTANT
- The closer to the start of the academic term you cancel, the higher the fees you may forfeit.
- Each university has specific cancellation charges outlined in its Fees Booklet.
- Ensure that all university property, such as library books and student cards, is returned as part of the cancellation process.
